ぷよぷよ フィーバー(Puyo Puyo Fever) Style of Myself!

As I'm a big fan of Puyo Puyo video game series, I always wanted to try out the Puyo Puyo Fever art style, and I decided to put myself to draw with :P, It sure looks simple but the line stroke thickness is one time consuming... But it was nice to try it out! I'm using this picture for my profile at Puyo Nexus! (A Number one Puyo Puyo fan website as almost good as the official)

Who Are You – 9‐second Video: PATRIX

This project aims to create a form of design which expresses and promotes myself in a 9‐second‐long motion graphical media. The main idea of my project is to dress up into myself from a blank person who has nothing, standing against a box named ‘PATRIX’, which is a parody of ‘Patrick’s’. As the blank person opens the box, all elements of myself jump out from the box and turn the blank person into me, therefore emphasizing who I am.

The Great Escape

2008 AUT Bachelor of Graphic Design Exhibition: The Great Escape by Patrick Yu

The project is about escapism in the video game culture. Video game enthusiasts believe that the virtual world has become far more realistic than the world they exist in. So much so, that the players choose to isolate themselves from society and would rather live sitting in front of a bright screen that allows them to be part of a vibrant virtual space. But what if it was because they never felt that they belonged to the real world? The story begins with a boy called ‘Steve’, who desires to escape from the real world when he meets his virtual companion. Now is the time for him to really explore the world of fantasy that he always wanted to experience, but this time without electronic boundaries.

Concept art for ? - Stage Five

Please click the image to see with a better view.
Nearly getting there! I've shown this picture to a few and many said that the characters are dieing, I guess I need to put some more characters in order to make everything a slightly busier. Plus, it is a concept art after all, the purpose of this picture is more focusing on the overall perspective. But yes, any advices are something to take in with! (Thanks to Jason Hong, got a lot of great advices for myself to improve!)

Concept art - Stage Four

I must say, the background is just some work! This is taking more time than I thought it would be... Keep Trying!

Concept art - Stage Three

Please click the image to see with a better view (it's very big...)
Hmm...

Concept art for ? - Stage Two

Close up view of the stage two, I just took a screen shot. I must admit that I still a long way to apply realistic techniques but won't give up!

Concept art for ? - Coloring Stage One

Please click the image to see with a better view.
I own two books which are written by Suk Jung-Hyun, a great illustrator from Korea. One of the books contains the tutorial information on Painter IX. I've read over and over and trying to research about the style of his drawings. Now here I am doing my own one.

Concept art for ? - Sketch

Okay, this is the biggest drawing I'd ever try so far, I hope this will turn out successful although remember to be critical to myself! This is a concept art for ?. Still working on little bits and pieces but kinda wanted to have an overall theme in my mind to work way through.

The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Future(?)

Ooouh, my favorite video game: The Legend of Zelda, but this time it is my fan-art!! I always wondered how Link will look when he is very old. I didn't want to make him look so hopeless I guess, haha just keeping his shape and confidence! I couldn't draw Zelda old... I just couldn't... I mean I don't think they get older at all haha, but who knows... No Zelda title like this to be released yet.

The little witch and her puffy warroir - Fin

Alright, I'm trying to be critical to myself... *mumbles about my the bits that need to be improved!!*

The little witch and her puffy warrior - Mid Stage

This could be the stage 2 of the drawing; the hair of the worrior was challenging...

The little witch and her puffy warrior - Stage One

Bypassing the sketching stage, here is the first stage of my coloring part. I always found it's very tricky when it comes to coloring, especially with a background. One of my inspiration told me that I should really try glazing before doing full-color version. That'd be my next goal!

The Victory

Well, I guess their last call turned out to be successful indeed! This time, as for their victory, I drew them in more cartoony style. The end of the invation story haha..

The Last Call

My first experiment of drawing a crowd, it took forever... Thanks to the traditional method of copy-and-paste! What will happen to them? You'll see in the next episode or should I say, the next post-

Doodling: Jenova

People who have been coming across with many video games will definately know this moment... the moment when the greatest purity turns into an unstoppable darkness.

Doodling...

I wish I was in that position right now where I'm fully busy with my professional job. Again, see if the book is ture hehe...

Doodling...

Recently I've been reading this book called 'The Secret', and I deeply started thinking about what was said on the book and while I doodling, I wanted to draw me in the future? Haha... Let's see if this turns out to be true.

Best Friends Forever

A present to one of my long time best friends, infact I have included all of them with her favorite animal/monsters. It was made for a desktop background/a digital illustration but I had to some transparent black over the picture for a desktop purpose. I personally really like it.

Vampire Combat - Finish

I'm not happy with background to start with but, I guess I wasn't very ciritical to myself (never do this again!) surprisingly, my client liked it. So without a moment, this was left like that. Well, it's a good thing to look back and point out so many things to fix up!

Vampire Combat - Mid Stage

The coloring part was a little tricky since I wanted everything very dark as well as leave some brighter colors to show the characters. Still need a lot of practice, no gain no pain....

Vampire Combat - Sketching

A random person contacted me through e-mail that he wants me to draw him and his friend in a vampire version. He wants to be a dracula and a zombie for his friend. so I did a quick sketch for him and he really liked it...(although it was such a busy time which the background wasn't set properly)

Selecon Promotion part 2: The Safety Diagram

Make sure to click the image to see in full.
Another illustration which was a conjoin with Eric the police dog character design. As you can see, it's the actual purpose of the promotion where Eric is teaching how to handle the lighting equipments safely.

Selecon Promotion: Eric the Police Dog!

A character design I've done for a freelance job, It was a promotional project from Selecon (a company which provides the lighting equipments for the performing stages). The promotion was mainly targeted young audience whom have worked or have been working with lighting equipments on the stage. Eric is a police dog teaching the safety facts about handling the stage lights youngsters since the equipments need an extra care.

Music Piracy - Acrylic Drawing

First of all, the meaning of the picture is just very literal: burning a CD with the smoke which appears to be a set of music notes... THE MUSIC PIRACY! I mean I'm sure many people (I mean pretty much all) do download their own beloving music from the internet. Just think about what if you were a muscian and people are just downloading your greatest work, would you be super happy?

Alice Part 3

The inking part of any drawings is always so hard and intense, since there is no turning back. Also, it makes even worse if I try to edit the line that I've screwed up (which makes the line even thicker looking rediculous). But inking with classic dip-pen is my favorite drawing tool!

Alice Part 2

This is the part 2 of Alice drawing, as you can see, I drew many perspectives of her to portray her diffrent emotions.

Alice Part 1

Simply a water color drawing I've done during one of the assignment. It was used for my research board to support the drawings of Arthur Rackham who is one of my inspiration.

Character Design: Story Board 9-12

I should have talked about the medium that I've used for the storyboard. Basically, it's purely pencils(as you can tell of course) and I was actually testing myself how much rendering that I could do with pencil and I guess many things still need to be improved. Well, this is the end of the storyboard and I hope you guys like the story!

Character Design: Story Board 5-8

Frame 5-8, I guess it'd be better for viewers to figure out what is happening in the story board, if the viewers think it makes a good sense, then it means the story board has done a great job.

Character Design: Story Board 1-4

The first 4 frames (reads from top left-right-bottom left-bottom right) of the storyboards and as you can see, Aero encounters an imaginative friend Rowi (a giant kiwi robot) which she gives a very surprised look.

Character Design: Aero

This is a character design I've done in year 3 Graphic Design at AUT. The project was to create a character and make 12 frames of storyboard to portray the personality of the character. Her name is Aero, who is very out going and energetic and lives in the farm along the coast line in New Zealand. One day, she meets an imaginative friend while she went out for a walk and she is about to explore her exciting adventure!
